DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION INITIATIVE

Ticonderoga was awarded $10 Million as the North Country region’s winner of the sixth-round Downtown Revitalization Initiative funding in January of 2023. New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) is a cornerstone of the State’s economic development program. The DRI transforms downtown neighborhoods into vibrant centers that offer a high quality of life and are magnets for redevelopment, business, job creation, and economic and housing diversity.

North Country Rural Development Coalition (NRDC) was awarded $600,000 through the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) to create the Small Projects Fund, which provides matching grant funds to commercial properties in the Ticonderoga Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) target area.

The Ticonderoga Natural Foods Co-op was awarded $376,000 of these state monies to:

1. Expand and improve our storefront
2. Add space for eating-in
3. Update our commercial kitchen
4. Add more refrigeration in the store and improve efficiency
5. Build equity for our members

WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW

Dec 2025-Jan 2026

In mid December, the Co-op issued an invitation to Architectural & Engineering Services firms  to bid for our renovation project. The invitation was published in the Sun Newspaper, the Post Star, and distributed through the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce, North Country Rural Development Coalition and the Adirondack North Country Association.

Proposals are to be received by Jan. 30 and will be reviewed according to the selection criteria provided in the Request for Proposals (RfP). We aim to select an A&E team by Feb. 9th.

Feb - Mar 2026

The chosen A&E firm will work with Broden Design Group (providing pro bono design services- thank you local friends from Putnam!) to put together a complete renovation plan.

Apr 2026

When the A&E firm has completed its renovation plan, our Environmental Services contractor will begin its work, making sure that the Co-op complies with all necessary New York state stipulations.   At the same time, the Co-op team will get working on the RFP for a Construction Management Firm.
