Workshops & Activities include:

10 - 11 AM: Flower Start Workshop for Adults: Michelle Kuba from Crown Point Farm & Dairy will lead a workshop about Seed Starting. Topics will include Direct Seeding vs Transplant, Soil blocking & plug trays, Light, Heat & Water, Germination times/temps, days to harvest. She & her husband Mike grow 10,000 + flowers for fresh bouquets & drying each year. Michelle is happy to answer all flower questions related to growing bulbs, tubers, perennials, & annuals.

10:15 - 11 AM: Earth Day Story Hour & Craft at Black Watch Library: Start your family’s Earth Day fun at the library with story hour & a craft, then wander down to the co-op for other family-friendly events.

11:15-11:45 (and throughout the day): Worms Eat my Garbage Demonstration. Worm composting may sound crazy, but it’s a great way to reduce waste even in the colder months when traditional composting slows, it provides nutrient rich compost for gardens & landscapes and is a fun way to learn about worms. Presented by Dawn Karlson of Clayground Farm. Dawn & her husband Mark grow sunflowers & cover crops using no-till seeding techniques and have a small market garden at their farm in Putnam.

11:45-12:15 (and throughout the day): Where Does My Food Come From? Scavenger Hunt: Mary Godnick of Adirondack Harvest & Cornell Cooperative Extension will help participants of all ages learn where our local food comes from & how it connects us to farmers, producers, animals, plants & land. Mary’s passion for a local, sustainable food system supports the development of Adirondack Harvest sponsored Cuisine Trails & spills out into her own veg & herb garden at Dacy Meadow Farm in Westport.

Throughout the Day: Seed starts for Kids: Michelle Kuba of Crown Point Farm shares her tips about how to start a flower.

Throughout the Day: Sample Foods from your Local Farmers: Lillie Valley Farm, Crown Point Dairy, Crown Point Bakery, Daughter’s Five, Juniper Hill, North Country Creamery & others

Throughout the Day: Take the Food Print Quiz and learn about ways to reduce your carbon footprint by re-thinking your food.
